Healing and Wholeness
When you move house you come to realise what’s valuable to you – really valuable. Its never the expensive items but the things which you treasure and hold dear. The heartfelt gifts and things which hold memories. When we moved from Brighton it was the two hand carved walking sticks we were given by a friend – inscribed with Mark 6: 8 – ‘Take nothing for your journey except a staff’, which were most precious to me…. They were last in the van and first out. When we left our church in Brighton to go to Theological college in Durham, after 15 years worshipping there, the church had shortly before had a massive falling out with the Vicar…. It happens. On our last Sunday there was no one left from the cohort who had journeyed with us over those last 15 years. When we left those that remained didn’t even give us a card to wish us well and send us on our way. It’s a very painful memory for me. That why I was so very moved , when we arrived in Hugglescote, by the warm welcome we received from you all at a lunch party laid on for us and especially treasure the beautiful hand drawn card you gave us, drawn by Hayley and signed by you all. |
I can honestly say it’s the most valuable thing I own. It speaks to me of welcome and acceptance, of love and community – which we are discovering again after the trauma of the split at our Brighton church. The sense I get from God is that this parish, being a part of this fellowship, will be a place of healing and wholeness for us. A place where we can be who we are in Christ. A place of restoration. With all good wishes, Chris Haywood |
